Arsenal vs Bolton MOTD Highlights and Goals

Posted by Arsenalist on 10th January 2009

It almost looked like those sneaky little rats from the north were going to get a point. The goal was a long time coming, Adebayor should’ve scored but decided to doodle around with the ball instead of firing and later RVP (best player on the pitch IMHO) struck the post. Bolton were officially playing a 4-5-1 but it looked more like a 7-3-1. I’m just glad we cracked it.

Arsenal vs. Burgenland XI Highlights and Goals: Pre-Season Friendly

Posted by Arsenalist on 28th July 2008

Burgenland XI 2, Arsenal 10

Good afternoon from Toronto.

Enjoy the goals from this slaughter. Bummer about their two goals, we could’ve had 25 if we wanted to. The game means nothing and wasn’t a good test, I’d like it better if we pick stronger opponents so that there’s some measure of success – games like these don’t tell us much aside from that we’re young and talented which we already knew. Bacary Sagna’s goal

Posted by Arsenalist on 23rd March 2008

I don’t feel like putting anything else up, let me know if you really want to see Drogba score twice on us and I’ll make it happen. We’re toast in the league, our only chance of silverware this season is the Champions League.

Arsenal vs. Birmingham City Highlights + Pictures: Gunners robbed as Eduardo breaks leg

Eduardo Injury Update from Arsenal.com:

All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process. It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months time and making a full recovery after nine months. Eduardo will be released from hospital in a few days.

That’s great news.

That was not a penalty. Clichy got all ball, the video below shows that. That’s about all the analysis I’m willing to make. That and Taylor should never play football again.

I feel dirty dropping 4 points to the Brums. We played like shit against them in January but this time around, deserved to win. Two set-pieces gift-wrapped by the ref resulted in two goals. Horrible night for the Gunners, if there’s a silver lining, it’s that Walcott finally broke the ice and scored two league goals. Bad result in FA Cup followed by mediocre result in Champions League followed by a bad result in the league. This is when things started to go south for us last year but this year is different. We played awful last year during this time period, but this year it’s a question of injuries (RVP, Rosicky), bad luck (Adebayor and the crossbar) and bad refereeing (penalty today).

I’m not concerned, we’ll shake this off next week against Villa and finish the job in Italy. Prayers with Eduardo, he’s out for a long, long time, will miss the season obviously and is out for Euro 2008. Say what you will about Arsenal’s bad disciplinary record, we’ll argue with ref, go for a bold tackle, but we don’t try to end players’ careers. The FA needs to realize people come to watch players like Eduardo, not riff-raff like Martin Taylor. I’m very interested as to what the suspension will be for this guy, seeing how we’re the Gunners and not Man Utd or Liverpool, he’ll get off with a slap on the wrist. At what age do they teach you how to tackle? This fucker still hasn’t learned, ban this guy for a season. Wenger is pissed, and rightfully.

Arse!

Finally, this one is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC in nature. The injury video is the last one on this page, scroll down for it.

Arsenal vs. Fulham Highlights: Adebayor on the double

Posted by Arsenalist on 19th January 2008

Fulham 0, Arsenal 3

Complete domination of Fulham. After the Birmingham result this is exactly what we needed. Adebayor’s two unstoppable headers and a blistering run by Eduardo to find Rosicky put us up 3 goals on an afternoon where we only needed one. Unfortunately Reading couldn’t hold off Manchester United at home and fell 2-0 making the gain for the weekend a +1 in goal differential. I highly doubt it’ll come to that when it’s all over, but it is a gain for the weekend, however small. The GD stands at -6.

Our back four was hardly bothered today and Almunia had to do very little if anything, our midfield dictated the game with Hleb having another phenomenal performance where his prime footwork was on full display. The MOTM had to be Adebayor and his deceptively quick headers which wrong-footed the goalie twice, aren’t you glad Togo didn’t qualify for the ACN?

The RVP injury is bad news, right now we have arguably our most talented player and our best defender out for an extended period of time. It’s critical that the Gunners see this stretch through without further injury or setback.

Up next in the league we have Newcastle at home while Manchester United deals with Portsmouth in Manchester.

Here’s the Arsenal.com Match Report and the BBC Match Report which ends up having post-match interviews. Make sure to grab the feed.

Arsenal vs. Birmingham City Highlights: Uggghhhh

Posted by Arsenalist on 12th January 2008

Arsenal 1, Birmingham City 1

A bad result for Arsenal, dropping two points at home to Birmingham wasn’t something anybody saw coming. I thought we played a bit too narrow and unnecessarily relied on deep crosses instead of just using the width of the field using our passing. We wasted a few first half chances when Birmingham was playing in awe of us instead of actually playing. In the second half, they tightened up defensively and our offense regressed into taking the easy way out. I thought the introduction of Bendtner was a good idea, probably should’ve come sooner seeing how we couldn’t connect to the end of our crosses all game long.

We didn’t create too many chances in the game and were guilty in the first half of the old Arsenal sin of passing too much and allowing the defense to recover instead of shooting. That’s what makes us good and that’s what bites us in the arse at times. Today it bit us. I thought we were a bit complacent today and almost expected to score at some point in the second half and never soaked Birmingham with enough pressure to put them on their back foot. Instead we hoped to connect on low percentage passes which played right into the hands Birmingham who were there to be broken if we had tested their resolve.

Winning the Premier League is no easy matter and the fight for the top of the table will come down to the last week and those head-to-head fixtures against Man Utd and Chelsea – just like how it’s supposed to be. You’ll find both goals below, just look at them once and forget about this game. Onwards. Here’s the Match Report. Do keep an eye on the Feed.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham Highlights (Carling Cup Semi Final): Eduardo finds Walcott, Walcott finds net

Posted by Arsenalist on 9th January 2008

Game Notes:

- Berbatov’s boyfriend was the commentator.

- Djourou and Senderos make me nervous. I’d rather have Sol Campbell than these two dicking around in the back.

- Denilson has trouble filling Fabregas’ shoes. Not really a surprise but the difference in quality is huge.

- It’s funny how right-footed Abou Diaby is.

- Second straight game where Eduardo’s picked out a run to perfection.

- The Theo goal was four inches away from being a handball, check the video.

- There wasn’t a doubt whether we’d come back despite playing like horse manure for about 88 minutes of this game.

- The Traore freekick from just outside the box made my go “Ughhhh”

- Match Report.

Arsenal vs. Burnley Highlights (3rd Round FA Cup): Eduardo and Bendtner pull Gunners through

Posted by Arsenalist on 6th January 2008

Arsenal 2, Burnley 0

Isn’t Turf Moor the coolest ground name in English football? I think so. Anyway, Eduardo continues his fine form with a calm, cool, collected, composed, compassionate and creative finish. Did you expect anything less? In all seriousness, we played like shit and are lucky to have survived the Burnley pressure after they were whittled down to 10 men. I’m not too sad to lose Eboue to the ACN after this one, as the halftime guy from ESPN (idiots, all of them) pointed out, “It’s like he’s wearing a colored uniform, keeps giving the ball away every time”. Eboue needs to understand what his limits are abide by them, his departure will mean more time for Walcott who is just about due to score his first league goal – I can’t take the suspense anymore!!

Senderos didn’t look completely shaky which gives me some confidence that he just might be able to fit Kolo’s size 50 shoes while he’s gone. The thing that’s scary about Senderos is that he has that look about him that says “you know I’m going to screw up sooner or later and when I do it’s going to be large” and every time I look at his mug I think back to last year’s FA Cup against Blackburn. This is usually where the Senderos supporters point out his contributions in the CL in 2006 and I say yeah, but what have you done for me lately? I know, I’m a bitch.

This might be the last we’ve seen of Jens Lehmann who I’ll be sad to see go. He’s done mulling over an offer from Dortmund which he’s a fool to reject because it doesn’t look like Wenger will ever forgive him for his early season gaffes. The man sure holds a grudge. Here’s the Arsenal.com match report but you also want to check out Third Gen – he likes to write and write and write.
