Report: Shay Given given Arsenal clearance by Roberto Mancini
According to Metro.co.uk:
And Mancini, speaking ahead of his side’s Europa League qualifier against FC Timisoara on Thursday, has admitted he will not stand in Given’s way if the 34-year-old demands a move after being demoted to the bench in favour of 23-year-old England international Joe Hart.
“I hope he can stay,” said Mancini.
“But I respect his decision if he wants to leave.”
The comments will put both Arsenal and Fulham on high alert for the Republic of Ireland international, with the Cottagers expected to move for Given if the Gunners opt to go through with their efforts to sign Schwarzer from Fulham instead.
If this is true, it is great news. Hopefully this can be done ahead of our weekend game against Blackpool. A lot has already been said about our goalie situation and there’s only one concluding fact: we need to get better at the position. Given is better than Almunia and Fabianski. While I have faith in Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny, they are not ready to contribute just yet. If we are to contend for a title, this move is necessary.
It’ll be a comedy if we take Schwarzer and Given goes to Fulham…

Wow I’m still hoping for Schwarzer to be honest. I am a aussie socceroo supporter and to have him join the gunners would make my day. He is just a great keeper and very consistent.

Fourthly, Koscielny had a brilliant game! He is the best buy Arsene has done (defensively)! He will only get stronger and better, take away the red card and you will realize he was awesome!
Fifthly, I cannot wait for BIG OLD SONG to come back! He will be our best midfielder this summer! We will be a whole different defensive team once he is back!!!

I would prefer Given myself, he’s younger and in my opinion a bit more solid, but both are very talented.
What about the german keeper, Neare, or something like that? I also did like the keeper from Uruguy, he is young, very young, but a lot of potential.

i think squillaci would go well in the team… he is good, consistent… french… haha
he will hopefully bring some maturity into the team… with him and V partnering, backed up by djourou and koscielny, it looks like a decend defensive line up… frm wht i;ve heard he;s pretty good.
I guess Alumnia will make a decent Basketball player. His jump with his hands raised up right behind the opponent is the best defending you can do in BBall when a player is going for the basket.
No… it doesn’t work in Football… You have to get the ball.. You have to be aggressive to push off the people in front of you to punch the ball… Nothing short of that.
But I don’t remember Alumnia making any mistake during Lehman’s final season. He was brilliant then, that’s why Jens had to be in bench.. He showed so much promise.. I wonder what happened.
I hope Wenger gives him 1 more year… May be he can do a “Gomes” like turn around. And anyway I don’t think we will win the league or CL this year… May be a Carling Cup or F.A if we play a decent team..

@fatgunner…I think it would be a decent signing if it happens. He certainly is experienced and he has the height we need at the CB position. He doesn’t have a lot of pace buti think he wouldatch with Vermaelsn well.
