Fabregas situation needs to be resolved before more signings happen

Arsene Wenger after signing Chamakh:

When asked about the striker positions:

“Of course, we have enough players up front, we now look into other areas. At the moment up front, we have what we need”

When asked about future signings:

We’re looking at the moment and taking information, scouting, we are working very hard, we’ll have one or two more signings, that’s for sure

With Chamakh on board, here is what our striker situation is:

First-choice: Van Persie, Chamakh
Second-choice: Bendtner, Eduardo
Third-choice: Vela, Walcott

Sound about right? I think so. The talent is obviously there, but none of these players have played extensively with each other and haven’t developed a chemistry upfront which would label them a true partnership. The time missed by Eduardo, RVP, Walcott, and Bendtner has been very significant, and now that we’ve added another new player, it’s going to require some patience on our part to see them get it going. I certainly don’t expect Chamakh to come in and be a goal-scoring machine, but the good news is that scoring pretty goals isn’t his only thing. Arsene Wenger labelled him a “fighter” in his interview, which is very true.

From what I’ve seen of Bordeaux, he is a very physical striker that isn’t afraid of contact and even looks to invite it. Some of his aerial strikes have been nothing short of amazing, which is great news because we’ll finally have somebody to aim at in the box when we launch those crosses. You do remember those crosses, right? The ones usually sent in by Eboue, Walcott, Clichy and even Arshavin which just sail over the six-yard box? I do hope that this signing adds an aerial dimension to our attack, something which has always been lacking, even with Henry in his prime. Bendtner’s a good header of the ball, but his overall game, especially with the ball at his feet, leaves much to be desired.

Who are the “one or two more” signings he’s looking at? I don’t think even he knows yet because of how the Fabregas situation might turn out. If Fabregas does leave, you’d think “one or two” could easily become “two or three”, unless of course we get something from Barcelona in return. Looking at Barcelona’s first team, I don’t think they’ll be able to offer us much. Maybe Toure (who is a bit average) and Ibrahimovic (who we don’t need), certainly they won’t be giving us someone like Dani Alves. Perhaps Gerard Pique could go some ways in fillng our defensive holes, but not matter what, we won’t even be getting 20 cents on the dollar in a Fabregas sale. Still, it’s hard to see any more signings being made until the Fabregas situation is resolved.

There was some talk of Steven Gerrard perhaps replacing Fabregas, now as much as I hate the little diving bastard, he could add some steel in midfield. His vision certainly isn’t that great, but when he’s not making back-passes to handle Premier League titles away, he’s a good defender and could be a backbone of our midfield. However, I just don’t see it happening because being 30 is like being 48 in the eyes of Wenger and there’s no way he’d play him over the midfield he believes in (aka: Rosicky, Diaby, Ramsey etc.).

I wouldn’t mind if our midfield was kept intact as long as Rosicky and Nasri played 85% of the games. I’d much rather the signings Wenger’s referring be a goalie and a back, even though it’s obvious that we need more than just one signing at the back.

Very true! Hopefully it gets settled before the world cup n leaves wenger time to get a few ppl! There have been talks of Arteta as well! I always found him interesting!

N totally agree with u that the defensive n goalie positions need to be addressed over the midfield! If Chamakh does click well for us then I think we have a good midfield to feed him n RVP. The prob this season was there was too much pressure put on the midfield to produce goals since Bendtner was our only option upfront.

Having said that it wouldn’t be bad if we got a spark in the midfield as well!

Either way we must fight for the title next season!

i like this but i a bit worried these dun look like 38 games a season durable and would u trust our third chicoe against chelsea :(

  3. Tom says:

He will buy either one dfender or two if gallas leaves bit he can buy one defender then hopefully as a
    bonus a goalie(unlikely) or a defensive midfielder

  4. ArsenalX says:

We might as well all come to the conclusion that Gallas is leaving and that Cesc is going to go, if not this year, then it will be next year. Therefore, I believe that we should take the highest amount of cash we can get for him and call it good. In addition, we also lost Merida, who was basically the same player as Cesc.

I don’t know how many times in need to say this.

Arsenal need to take all of the cash we get from this transfer window and reinvest into the Academy and produce players like Barca does. That is the only way to have a squad that I. Cares and II. is economical to produce and maintain.

So what if we don’t win trophies, we will secure our future in the long run.

That/This is what I want. A squad that is 85-90% comprised of players that are produced by the academy, playing and winning things for Arsenal.

  5. Gooner! says:

Y did Fran Merida have to leave?? If a 20 yr old like him doesn’t see a future at Arsenal then it is something to worry about! He was a good prospect for us had he been there!

  6. Goooonner!! says:

GK: Lloris, Joe Hart or Shay Given
since joe hart is goin back to city, neither of them (given) will wanna be second choice, so im guessing one of them will wanna leave where they are guaranteed 1st choice.

    CB: Chiellini
experienced & italian. defenders dont come better than them.

    MF: Felipe Melo
experienced, alongside him song could get even better

  7. zeb says:

melo would be good if we could get him, its very likely, as the juve fans said he was the worst player in their team this season, so he will probably want to leave. he suits our style of football aswell, and could provide a replacement for cecs.

i still say that we should splash the cash on buffon, becuase he would be a really good mentor for manonne, who is already quality, and could be one of the best in a few years.

on a unrelated issue, i found out that denilson lives on my street last week, and i saw him outside his house.

If someone who reads this blog personaly know Wenger, please give him this message:)

Since Barca has tried to destabilize Fab’s relationship with this club for the past 4 years and accourding to the newspapers, they have succeded, he should do the following:

Since Fab has another 5 years on his contract, he can go on loan to barca for 3 years. At 20 mil a pop, which will give us 60 mil for his loan spell. Include a clause which state that after 3 years barca has to put in a bid starting at 60 mil or arsenal can sell him to the highest bidder…

Since they have done everything in their will to get him they should pay out of there ass for him… Oh and remeber the royalties we should get for the sale of shirts, goals, assists and if we really want to try and bankrupt them for each game he plays (for the 3 year loan spell):)

And remeber, at arsenal he is a legend for barca he will be mediocar because he will be compared to Messi…

Come on the gunners, in arsene we trust
    Keep the faith

BARCA TO MAKE OFFICIAL BID FOR CESC 30M VIA FAX.

What I don’t understand is how Barca can pay £20m+ and Eto for Zlatan and think that Cesc is worth £30m. Its an insult! and players like adebayor who were sold for 25M. wenger asked for 80M which i LOL’d at i truly think hes worth in the region of 65M. They also know Cesc is worth a whole lot more than that. £50m should be their starting bid, nothing less. And its sad how they have been so unproffesional, using the media in their pursuit of Cesc…. Pitty.

  12. pissed gunner says:

    IF WASNT INJURED?

    MORE WONGA!!!!!!

  13. anaon says:

Come on you gunners, in arsene we trust keep the faith!!!!! why?
How many clubs in top flight football would put up with a manager who is completley unambiteous and has not won anything for six years. (and not likeley to in the near future) to call Arsenal a serious club would be a joke.

  14. dubbledubs71 says:

its lookin like cesc is a goner not a gooner, i really hope he stays, WTF is the point of contracts anyway? he shud honour it any stay in his true home. im sick of them fuckin cheatin tappin cunts stealing all our players. would like to go to the nou camp & cover the pitch in anthrax spores or pesuade them to hire the lasagne chef for a season or 2, the only runs messi will be makin is to the crapper, what if cesc goes & others like rvp, song or vermallen follow him out the door? where wud we b then? wenger has a yr left on his contract & is not in a hurry 2 sign a new deal either which is worrying. i just hope the cesc thing is sorted soon & pray he gives us a season or 2 & we get the 2 or 3 new signings that will strengthen the team even more & get rid of the players that have been holding us back. good times bad times u kno ive had my share but im a gooner til i die, so fuck the shite fart lane pricks, we,re top dogs & always will be, londons finest. A.F.C ARSENAL FOREVER.

  15. dubbledubs71 says:

anaon u need 2 go and support chelsea. what makes a team great is its history which is why arsenal is considered to be a top team. u seem to forget the progress this team has made this year & but for our long injury list would have surely been in the title challenge 2 the last day. id rather have a team of grafters than a team of 30million big name flops who are only there for the money. ps almunia lives on my street & ive just seen a 88yr old granny score 5 past him

  16. lockdown12 says:

I somewhat disagree with the Arsenalist on this one. If Fabregas goes, Arsenal will need to buy Wesley Sneijder or someone equivalent. Gerrard is the wrong fit.

I would still be surprised if Cesc goes this summer. No way Arsenal sells him for $30 mil and Barca isn’t going to go all out to get him. I think Cesc may have made a mistake by signaling his desire to leave now. He is superfulous to Barca’s needs and they just spent a fortune buying David Villa. He is under contract at Arsenal and they don’t have to sell at all, much less sell for $30 mil.

With all that in mind, I don’t see the Fabregas situation resolved any time soon, certainly not before the other signings that need to take place (which have to be done before the WC, otherwise risking price inflation). Hopefully Wenger will let others quibble over the Cesc drama and go get Sebastien Frey–awesome keeper who will most likely leave Fiorentina this summer–and maybe Sakho of PSG.

  17. haha! Almunia living out in Mullaghmore – seen Aiden Jackson scoring an absolute peach past him the other day.

Let Cesc go and Arshavin too …Wenger ain’t no Joseph Fritzl – If they don’t wanna be there then fuck off.

Lest we forget that Wenger knows best – I trust he will pull another stroke of transfer genius in the summer.

‘arry Redknapp may be Del Boy – but Wenger will always be Arthur Daley. (the Daddy)

Fuck Spurs… and Stan (mouth!) Collymore.

  18. ArsenalX says:

The keeper we should get is Joe Hart. He is young, talented, and English.

Lets face it, we don’t have enough English players in the squad, something that is haunting us at the moment. If Arsenal keeps taking players from countries that have big leagues, namely Spain and Italy, the players are going to naturally want return to their home country/club. Cesc and Merida are perfect examples of that.

Arsenal needs to place big time investment in developing English players. I am not saying that we should have a squad comprised of only English players, but we need to have a spine of players who are not going to be constantly pulled away from Arsenal because they want to go home.

When all of your key players are from foreign countries, there is always the chance that they are going to leave. An example of this would be Rooney. His chances of leaving is very slim when compared to Nani.

This can also be applied to other leagues, the chances of Xavi leaving Barca are slim compared to those of Ibra.

  19. ajnumber10 says:

    av it you tunt

  20. budski says:

I think Cesc should respect his contract, which I believe will bring him some good in the near future. In two-three years from today, I believe Wenger’s project will come to fruition, thus winning Arsenal a couple of trophies, and he wouldn’t want to leave any longer. Maybe when he’s 28 or so he would want to finally come back and spend the rest of his career at Barca, and it would be fine. By that time, Wilshere will be as good as Cesc today, and ready to replace him in Arsenal, and Gerrard in England squad.

  21. jesse the gun says:

if cesc goes we should replace him with gourcouff he’s pure quality and if we could maybe get marqez from barca as part of the deal we could use the profit from the cesc deal to get a proper keeper, just a thought

  22. Magical Arsenal says:

Reports claim Cesc’ dad says Arsenal should respect Fab’s decision.
Fab says he’s 500 % sure of a move to Barca.

Then what’s the point of contracts? Barca says they are being threatened by Arsenal to raise the bid.
We are being threatened by who we thought was King of Gunners.

Just another stupid Hleb i guess. From a 80 million pound legend, Fab is willing to become a thirty million pound bench warmer.

    Piece of shite.

But srsly I feel team spirit is the most important, and Cesc, Arshavin should be sold for a profit of at least 60 million pounds. And Gallas should just leave and stop causing Arsenal all the trouble. From this cash, plus the Adebayorbitch and kolo’s sale, we should have enough to get a world class goalkeeper, an experienced defender, and a Gourcuff.

So let’s just all forget about Fab and Arsh, and Gallas.

    And Merida. He left already.

  23. david says:

Arsene Wenger should release a press statement and say fabregas wants to leave arsenal, then he should we the arsenal want £60,000,000.00 for him if barcelona cant match this value we wont sell if any other clubs want him and can match the price we will sell simpless……….then watch and see what happens

  24. ArsenalX says:

    @budski

contracts mean very little when people throw around money, or if a player wants out.

  25. johnny 46 says:

f.ck them all who want to leave, just to make sure we get the proper money for promoting, teaching, investing in them. The AFC should be before any individual.

Fabregas interview- says its out of his hands. 1 note tho… why is this put in the barcelona section of the website???

  27. budski says:

@ArsenalX oh wow if that is so, then Fabregas has no loyalty at all. Even Torres is willing to stay at Liverpool, he too is in his golden age, he too had been trophyless for a couple of years, he’s as well paid as Fabregas, his club finished 6th or 7th I forgot, yet he’s willing to stay while Fabregas do not? Some captain we have here. I’m amazed at how hard he worked this season for Arsenal, breaking his leg and stuff, just to leave it in the next summer.

  28. budski says:

@konvict, you still believed in the press? I don’t. You shouldn’t believe everything that you read. Just a friendly advice though. For why was it put in the Barca’s section. Well that maybe one of Barca’s paid propaganda to get Fabregas.

  29. ArsenalX says:

    @budski

All I am saying is that contracts are used to secure that clubs have a time frame in which they can receive a transfer fee for that given player. If a player truly wants out, a contract means little.

  30. gooonner! says:

it’s really low all the media saga regarding cesc. xavi, pique and others using the media to get fabregas over, honestly i dont think they will settle for a price, especially if he performs well in the WC, then his price will rise up again. to me fabregas is one of the best players around, and he young. my take is that he wont leave, at arsenal he is the star, at barca he’d be a star on the bench

  31. Hamid says:

If fabregas leave arsenal,i can fill his place.
I say again, what should i do for playing in Arsenal?

    ————————-
there is a video on internet, where he is saying that. Try to research a little before you teach little boys how life is…
    ————————-
I personally think that AW will keep him, unless Barca pays so much, that it will be stupid to keep him. I don`t think 35 mill will be enough for AW, as Fab is not just a random star player, but a role model of AWs work, the result of his vision of creating a team of young talents.

  33. konvict says:

@budski- yeah its a video of fab saying it- i dont believe quotes from press or reports but when its a video and he is actually saying it i can believe that interview.

    we’ll see what happens…

  34. budski says:

@trondheim I wasn’t teaching him. I was telling him my opinion that I don’t really trust the press that much. not these days. and had you read my comment correctly, I told him that I was giving him a FRIENDLY advice. and I didn’t research first because I assume the news originally came from the press again, so why should I bother researching something that I might not believe in the end?
so could you relax a wee bit, even konvict himself didn’t overreact as you did.

@konvict, i see, I didn’t know that, so I assumed you only read it somewhere. I didn’t even bother to open the link you provided, because it’s from skysports, which is one of the sources that I don’t believe. Didn’t know that they actually posted a video. :)
