Nasri omission is actually good news

Posted by Arsenalist on May 16th, 2010

Nasri’s omission from the World Cup squad might be bad news on the surface for the player, but it could be great news for Arsenal who will have a key player take a vacation this summer. In fact, after receiving the World Cup news, Wenger made sure to tell him to relax.

“Arsene called me a told me that things will remain the same between us. He advised me to take a good holiday and not to doubt myself.”

Nasri only played 29 of the 50 we played in the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup. That’s 58% of the games, it’s not hard to believe that if he was injury free and thus in-form, and available for 75% of the games or so, we’d have a better shot at winning something. The same is true for Theo Walcott, who will be named as part of England’s 30-man preliminary squad. He’s another guy that needs a summer off to recuperate, come back fresh next season and stay healthy.

Against Barcelona and coming down the stretch, we had the following first-team players out: Gallas, Nasri, Fabregas, Ramsey, Robin Van Persie, and Arshavin. That is more than half the first team, it’s no wonder we couldn’t compete, and one of the reasons why in my earlier post I suggested that we should be two-deep at every position, much like Chelsea who don’t miss a beat when their strikers or defenders lose games to injury. Keeping these guys healthy should be a major goal for Arsenal and news such as Nasri’s omission from the French squad is actually quite good from a club angle.

We’re also being linked with Klaas Jan Huntelalaar who is at AC Milan right now. I’m not sure how much this make sense since we’re already going to get Chamakh and have Eduardo, Vela and Bendtner on the bench. I like the Phil Jagielka rumour better, mostly because I recall him being a total pain every time we played Everton.

Finally, yesterday was frustrating. Boateng blew a penalty and a couple minutes later Drogba scored. I’d rather Chelsea have won 8-0 again, much better than the tease we saw yesterday.

as for hunelalaar Not gonna happen…
We already got Maruane Chamakh for Free mate
I mean 16Million will get us a solid center back

  2. Gooner! Says:

I guess Walcott could use a chance to compete at the international level! It would help him out! But agree with the post on the whole.. we do need our players to be available for a longer time in the season!

Arsenalist, I’m a-bit confused… What happened the 15th of May?

  4. Magical Arsenal Says:

    @Norwegian Fag

FA cup finals pompey vs chelsea. Boateng got his penalty saved by cech and following that drogba scored a freekick, which was taken excellently.

So Chelsea became the 7th club to grab a double in a single season. Darn Blues.

  5. Nabz Says:

Chamakhs in london for medical woooooo!

Huntelaar is definitely nt gonna happen. As fr the site which hosted it ? Did u read the other Arsenal link ups ? I burst laughin. Tk a look sometime.

Wht worries me most s abt cesc’s future. To hell wit Juan Laporta his technical cunts. Why would he just nt shut the fuck up and leave the lad alone.

  8. konvict Says:

yeah apparently cesc wants to leave…. if he goes we need to buy a big name for midfield… cos now we’d have no one. we already play pretty bad when cesc is injured in terms of midfield

  9. jesse the gun Says:

i’m not happy with this cesc storie but if we got a good price and used it for some defencive quality like upson and mexes(i no i’m dreaming)and a new keeper obviously then maybe someone like ozil or gourcouff to replace cesc. samir, tomas and jack could all play in cesc position, infact it would suit jack down to the ground, if rambo wasn’t injured then i wouldn’t be as worried but stay or go i think we will be stronger next season.but please stay cesc.Jack wilshire player of the year next season, you heard it hear first.

  10. 11 Guns Says:

is it true that cesc is leaving?

  11. Singha Says:

who knows if it is, but we will know before the world cup as he states he wants to have done. so he can go into the world cup without stress

My goodness. All over the net all I see are news that Fabregas is leaving to Barca. If it does happen, it’ll be the second time in 3 years that we’re losing our best player and captain to the very same club, Barca. None of us likes it, but it looks like we’re going into 10/11 without our sensational number 4.

It’s at this point in time, I really hate Barca, cause I rarely do. But actually if you realise, Barca are not far from their arch rivals Real Madrid. Why does everyone think that Real is the only club who splash their cash like nobody’s business? Real have signed big name players like Kaka, Alonso, Benzema in recent history, but hasn’t Barca too? Maxwell, Henry, Ibrahimovic, and now Fabregas? I hope I’m not the only one who thinks that Barca are in fact transfer market bullies with their megawealth can get their way in any player just like Real and Mancity.

I see Cesc enjoying his time in Barca and forgetting what Arsenal has done for him. However, I still have an inkling that Cesc will make a shock revelation that he wants to remain at Arsenal. It’s simple, either he goes, or he becomes one of Arsenal’s greats.

If Cesc does go, I think Vermaelen will pick up captaincy. Though he might have been at Arsenal for only a season, he has excellent captaincy skills what with his ability to shout at players and make them tremble. Highlights didn’t show but at Dragao, he grabbed Fabianski by his collar and shouted in his face. No it’s a joke. But anyway, at 23, Verm was already Ajax captain and is now Belgium captain. So I honestly hope he becomes one of Arsenal’s captains.

Another option is Clichy who has been at Arsenal for the longest time currently. He plays his heart out for Arsenal in every match and looked like he rejected every offers Real and Barca had for him. So, Vermaelen captain and Clichy vice. Awesome.

So who will cover Cesc’s hole? Big question. I always knew Wenger’s plan. He would have liked to have released Cesc in 2013. By then, Ramsey would have been close to overtaking Cesc in the maestro role and Ramsey would fill that hole. So now, I’m guessing Ramsey will become Arsenal’s talisman in midfield just that he has to improve quick, or Arsenal will suffer.

    Hope for the best, Gooners.
    Hope Cesc stays.
    Please don’t go.

  13. maniarocky Says:

Oh. just fr the sake of it. Cesc, plz dont leave :( !! It was Henry b4. then Hleb and nw Fabregas ?? As fr Henry, he had just one gud season there and helb ? is he even in their squad nw ? Was goin thru Arsenal’s main website yest and there I found tht Yaya toure was bein linked wit Arsenal. I dunno if he can fill the void but it ll never be like CESc :(

  14. Nabz Says:

If cesc leaves were gonna have the same season Liverpool have had just after there main midfielder Alonso left :/ CESC STAY ATLEAST ONE MORE SEASON new signings may take us top!!!

  15. zeb Says:

i hope what akz say’s it true, becuase that would be awesome, sell cecs in a couple of years for a huge lump of cash that will overwelm all the swiss banks in zurich, by that time ramsey and nasri are the new iniesta and xavi partering, with wiltshire as backup. vermaealen as captain would be a very wise decision, as he already has loads of captainicy experience, for club AND country. with rvp or clichy for backup.

    LOOOL

  18. maniarocky Says:

CESC said he wants to leave ?? WTF ?? I read tht everywhere around.

  19. 11 Guns Says:

if they want cesc so badly. they can get him for at least 80m. we can replace him. just as we replace henry with van persie, flamini with song, toure with vermaelen, cole with clichy, almunia with … owh, it’s still almunia. hahaha… but the point is, we must not let fabregas go cheap. 40m is a small price compared to what barcelona had paid to inter to get ibrahimovic which is 60m at the age of 27 plus swap with eto. fabregas is still 23, can still develop and have a long cntract for arsenal. this is just my opinion. however, i hope cesc stay with this club. Go Gunners!!!

  20. sgebenga Says:

cesc ante going nowhere. THEY WANT HIM SO BAD. PAY THE 80 MILL. he is our captain he shouldnt forget that too. we HAVE OFFICIALLY SIGNED CHAMAKH!!! GET in…nw sell eduardo and get balotelli :) . Moussa Sissoko wud do well in the middle too and we need 2 more centerback man! argg. sell silvestre and almunia, i bet wenger is tryna buy the best keeper. keep ur faith in him!

  21. Nabz Says:

yh we got cham!! @sgebenga OBVIOUSLY wenger will try to buy the BEST keeper from his budget.. lol anyway we need to rely on the rest of the team to provide good crosses cos this guys leathal with his head.

  22. 11 Guns Says:

yeah, sagna and clichy should improve their crossing. they really suck. always too high, not accurate and not enough speed in it. they should look man utd players like evra and neville crossing. hope we buy more players. Gunning for glory!!
