Arsenal vs Barcelona Highlights 2-2 – Champions League
Not a bad result considering how we had started. Maybe it was a question of nerves early on because Barcelona was dominating us and we’re thankful to Almunia for keeping us in it early. As the game wore on, we managed to string more passes together and build momentum even though we were handicapped by forced injury subs of Arshavin and Gallas.
Walcott came on and made an immediate impact with his pace on the right side and got rewarded with a goal. Fabregas than completed the comeback but will miss the second leg because of a bullshit yellow card. Much thanks to Almunia for keeping us in it, but the first Barca goal was on him.
I thought our zonal marking played right into their hands, Alves had plenty of space down the right and his crosses into the middle weren’t dangerous to begin with, but we never won the ball which resulted in chances. We were lucky to not be down big full credid to the team, they fought back when many had them written off.

Come on! Lets get another one!
3 injuries damn it… well at least both Puyol and Pique will be suspended.
At least it finished 2-2 My god it could’ve been worse! Pity Fabregas misses the return! We can still do a lot in the return with very carefully planned strategy and players on top passing form!
diaby is such a damn bad player!!!! Lose always the ball und stand all the time like a stupit tree !!!!!
eat your word back commentator..criticised a lot to arsenal before arsenal start to strike.. they said only two teams so far could handle barca which are chelsea and rubin kazan..Come on ARSENAL..let’s march to the final
i think we “respected” barca a bit too much…many times we just stood up and watch them and didnt pressure. even though B52 didnt score…i think he was really good helping out…and he didnt get much service up front…i believe if we get over the intimidation factor…and play for the 1st 45mins at nou camp….we can win this..but im happy its still in the balance…..go gunners!!!!
i’m worried like hell about the next week
in neu camp we need to win and it’s really hard:(
but if we have this sprit we can do it.
everyone was really nervous in the first 10 minutes.
i don’t wanna be negative but i had a bad feeling about arshavin, didnt even see him on the bench, was his injury that serious?!anyway maybe i’m mistaken
and bendtner wasnt that bad, walcott’s pace was awesome , i hope next week we can score 1st goal at neu camp and of we do that we can take advantage of counter attacks
O I LOVE THAT GAME,I THINK WE WILL WIN THEM A 1-0 IN THE IN THE NEW COMP,WILL ARSENAL NEED IS A RF & A KEEPER
@ars, no idea which “Diaby” were you watching, cause the one playing today as with recent run of games, is a superb midfielder with an excellent first touch.
amazing stuff at the emirates and the tie has lived upto the expectation. dissapointed that we got 3 men injured jepodizing our title chances. i agree with bajegooner we respected them FAR too much, no closing down and playing to deep in our half. song and diaby failed miserably , despite the goals i salute almunia and cesc ‘the soldier’ fabregas deserves a victoria cross. nasri and walcott smashed it big time. GO ON YOU GUNNERS!
fucking shitty match mate! i thougt barcelona would stick to 2-1
Arsenalist, please put up a video showing when Henry came on the pitch. I need to see it!
Thanks
Yeah lets stick it to them… I don’t think Barca’s CBs will be any stronger without Pique and Puyol.
But we have to get into Camp Nou without shaking like we did earlier today.
i was bricking it b4 about going to the nou camp but with a couple and changes (ie. bench diaby ), a decent ref and a shit barca defence i am lovin it now! who agrees with me that this has to be the match of the season?
yea Farshid i think we can win bar with pace
Damn, that was quick. Just finished watching the match a few minute ago, great job.
It’s still all to play for. I thought we’d be out of it but Almunia did a fantastic job early on in the match, and all the credit to him. Walcott definitely reinvigorated the side and without him I doubt we’d have even scored at all. Hopefully we can push them right from the off in the second leg, and with Pique and Puyol not playing the next match we should be able to get something done.
i was nervous at first 20 minutes great game almunia thank to you. win the next leg go Gunner!!!!!!!!!!!!
i retract my previous comment about song, he actually did his job,of locking down messi, well and had a on the line clearance but he did cause the 2 goals by not marking ibra.
I dont care if Arsenal lose their second leg. To be the best, u ve to face the best. This was a very influential game fr the gunners. Pretty much though, they looked completely meek in the first 20 mins. We were fuckin zeroed in on all terms including strenght, possession and skill but I dont wish to repent over tht. All tht shines b4 me now is we fuckin’ bounced back ! Arsenal fought bk brave n hard. we gotta give our NO:1 a big credit. he kept us alive and provided room fr us to get bk on our confidence. Arsenal needed a gme like this. THis gme though nt tht entertaining n nt tht unusual either. It ll live on.
Walcott was good n bendtner produced a far better performance. he didnt score though, bt he’ll in sometime get bk there.
Off we fuckin march on !
p.s. In ur face faggots ! to whomsoever it may concern !
Amazing job at uploading the videos man!
As for the match I cant be mad at the result. I’m worried about all the players we have out for our title shots in both the EPL and CL, but as we saw in the last 20-30min anything is possible.
My man Theo played great! He shows just enough promise for Wenger to continue to keep his faith in him….and I guess the same can be said for Almunia. Keep it up guys!
Hopefully we come out on fire like we did against Porto and take it to them. If we score the first goal at the Camp Nou we have a chance.
Go Gunners!
That thing called ‘mental strength’ that Wenger speaks of so often has shown up today. Screw all of us who dare bitch about our own guys today, they all were outstanding. Almunia, yes he messed up a bit on the first goal, but wow, when the rest of the team were dumb struck at barca’s game, he was the MAN. I did not know he could pull of such a performance. In midfield we were a bit shaky, we lost a few 50-50s but it was not too bad. Diaby and Denilson did a good job in containing Messi, stuck to him like gue and never let him past.
Frankly where were shining were on the wings. Playing through the middle with a midfield like barca’s is like trying to play through a wall, its just not the way to go. We gotta play wide, using pace and crosses. Speaking, of crosses, NB52′s header was outstanding, what more can u ask of him. The few chances he got he did good and his first touch seems to get better.
We definately got a chance of hammering Barca at Nou Camp. I think Puyol and Pique will miss the game which helps us a LOT! If we stick to formation. 2 wingers with sagna and clichy over lapping we can get them. Playing wide was the best thing we did today, it really caused havoc in the opposite box.
I have never felt more proud to be an arsenal fan.
Respect to the team. They fully deserve OUR respect!
@Norwegian Fag – Done! Added the Henry video.
Yes by far best game of the season!
After surviving the initial onslaught I thought we had a good chance of winning but damn Ibrahimovic. Glad to see Messi was tamed down much though, he was my number one worry. For all of the shit Almunia gets, he definately came thru on some crucial early moments and seemed more decisive than his normal self. I thought Eboue was a little on the shitty side though. Walcott saved our ass and Cesc is the man!!! I pray to God that we show up with a chip on our shoulder and show Barca that we have the pace and skill to out match those pussies. I think we have a good, viable chance with Puyol and Pique out, our players have to step up with the injuries and suspensions we will have next week. we can do it! Go Gunners!!!!
Arshavin bottled it tonight guys, plain and simple, he wasnt up for it. He was quick enough moving down the tunnel but was hobbling around on the pitch? Doesnt make sense to me.
Look at Fabregas, clearly in alot of pain after smashing in that pen and could have been forgiven for going off for the last 5 mins or so but he CHOSE to stay on and fight for the team.
Arshavin was careless in possesion when he was on (as he always is). He gives away cheap balls in our own half and never seems interested. The only moment of real fire from him tonight was the challenge where he injured himself and made no effort to run it off.
Big props to Gallas and Fabregas for playing when clearly they were not 100%. Arshavin should look at these two and try and take some inspiration. Instead of walking around feeling like he is bigger and better than us when he clearly is not. I would not be too sad to see the back of him in the summer and use the money to buy some quality players to strengthen the squad.
wow wot a game, have 2 say we got out of jail 2nite, bigtime, barca were a different class & yet we are still in it & go 2 the return game with a great chance, & as proven their defence is far frm solid. poor refereeing & injuries to arsharvin, super cesc & gallas (forcing song 2 bk 2 defence, a position he is not at ease with ) & some jekyll & hyde goalkeeping didnt help either. I’ll give denilson the benefit of the doubt for now, but he is too young & inexperienced 2 play agnst barcelona & looked a bit out of his depth. great goals by theo & cesc who’ll be missed in the return game as will picky & perky for baeca. we can go 2 the nou camp with heart knowing we got a chance to win. COME ON ARSENAL
Btw was just looking at the replay of the penalty foul. Must say, perfect decision from B52 to give the ball to fabregas, no where near enough pace to try a shot on goal. And yes, somethings up with arshavin, at time he seems to lack the drive that everyone else has. That sense of urgency that cesc, diaby, nasri, and everyone showed was just missing in him. Loved clichy, really stepped up his game.
Brilliant game no complaints at all need to score 2 goals away and DEFENDD!!
great game! wtf did cesc get this card for??? he clearly played the ball…damn!
Glad to see our gunners fight back but for those of you hailing this the best game of the year for us are badly mistaken. We should have been punished for our mistakes at the back in the first half and played without any sense of confidence at midfield for the first 15-20 minutes of the match. Tip of the hat to the whole defensive and midfield units for containing Messi like no team has been able to all year but it is going to take a much more than what was given today to get a result at Nou Camp.
Pointers for the next match:
-Holding Barca scoreless with Gallas was great but today proved once again that we are much more susceptible to mistakes at the back without him.
-Theo’s goal was HUGE but it could have easily been stopped had Valdes played it better and is an accurate depiction of the fact that our finishing MUST improve.
-Nasri has shown this season that he can play the facilitating role that Cesc does
-Wenger needs to get Eduardo in training and in the game if he is fit because playing Bendtner as the lone striker has never effective served its purpose (an arial threat)
-I am well aware of the fact that Barca is regarded as the best team in the world but they are not invincible and if we play our game there is no reason that they should out-possess and out-pass us the way they did today.
I think Wenger will assess the injuries (not that he has a choice) and make the proper decision on the formation and lineup for the next match. As a passionate fan I would not dare sit here and say that we cannot win but it is definitely going to mean we approach this game with a bit more conviction and a bit of luck in regards to who is fit in time. I truly don’t like to win matches as a result of the other squad not being at full power (2 suspensions and Iniesta injury) but playing without RVP has made us the underdogs against all the top-level competition we’ve seen this season. The absence of Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique, even at home, will make a massive difference in their confidence and ability to stop the ruthless attack of our Gunners. I think it will be the difference maker in a close win for the only real team of northern London.
i am happy today , gr8 spirit , hope we do something ib the return game, funny foul and red card ( wasnt a red for me )
go gunner
What a game, man!
Absolutely astonishing spirit in the team.
With a few changes in the forward lines, we may have a chance. No, we have THE CHANCE for payback. Payback for that clumsy victory of theirs in the Final back in ’06.
Putting Edu behind Big Nicky will surely weaken their defence in the centar, opening some space for Nasri (playing in Cesc’s position) to smite them bastards down. Dropping Arshavin on the bench will be a good move, also, considering the uprising Theo.
Go Gunners!
God bless and Godspeed!
This game really showed us wat arsenal should be like ! they played the ball way better than us n kept possession better than us! N had much more quality forward! But we did gr8 to come back into the game! We done!
I think that with more experience thid team will rise to a new level! Good luck Arsenal!!
Sonofkick,
it was a contact + Fab was in the position to score + puyol was the last man + referee = so it was a RED!
I believe IN Arsene we trust!
Good game especially after conceding the 2 goals. 1st half was nightmare for me to watch as we gave them a lot of possession. Great fight back to get the 2 goals cause imagine if we lost that game 0-2 which mean we have to score 3-0 in nou camp, but now we only need to win 1-0 to march on!
Nasri was superb, he’s the only one outfield player in 1st half that gave no respect to barca.
Almunia was good in 1st half also but he should have done better with that 1st goal of barca.
After that hard fought draw, we should win the 2nd leg. Come on Gunners!!!!
I remember people had written us off before the Porto match. We didn’t have Fab and Gallas, and B52 missed bunch of chance in the previous game. Yet, a 5-0 slaughter against Porto that night.
Right, we will be in Camp Nou, but as long as we go in there fearlessly (as we did after down 2 goals last night, and this is not against Porto but the reigning CL champion), then we can get to the Semi. Hell, when we go through Barca, we areaiming for the title.
There is a diff b/w porto n barcelona!
We will hv to do lots after this game if we wanna win it! a lot depends on arsene n strategy! Messi din play that much of a role today n even that could change next week!!
If our first team is good n they all hit top form we can easily challenge them!!
Great saves from Almunia, a wonderful burst of speed from Walcott, two assists from Bendtner, but the unsung hero was Denilson. He gave the ball away once in the whole time he was on. He kept possession when everyone else was giving it away. OK it wasn’t spectacular, but it was needed!
@ nook
come on i am happy we got the penalty , but u can see clearly that puyol dont even know whats gong on ? thats cesc leg who go between puyol’s one, the ref has to give a red cos he give the penalty but we where most that luky .. puyol leg is on the ground not moving when cesc shot..
i mean we have to be honest..
but i dont say having some luck on our side is bad ..
next week nasri will be playing in cesc role and damn the guy can do a hell of a gr8 job..
walcott or eboue instead of arshavin
but in defencen campbell for gllas? that is the only weak spot for me.. we will see
@BigDave
Yes the unsung hero was Denilson! Bendtner was also really good, his header on target was fantastic. You cant really ask for so much more than that.
and holy shit i hope cesc has not broken anythin
Almunia was surprisingly reactive, or lucky, during the first 15 minutes hahaha but great job nevertheless.
Theo Walcott was a superb impact player! I think Wenger put Walcott in during the last part of the game intentionally. He knows that during that time, Maxwell or whoever might be defending the left flank must’ve been exhausted so Walcott could easily outrun them, and boy he did just that.
And Bendtner was outstanding too, he won a lot of air battles and created chances that way. If I’m not mistaken he created both Arsenal’s goal (passed the ball brilliantly to Walcott and headed the ball to Fabregas before he was brought down by Puyol).
I believe Arsenal could win the second leg if they play it right, considering Barca would be much, much weaker on the defense without Puyol & Pique. But I think the key of winning against Barca is to control the midfield, and I hope Arsenal could do that.
Hands can so amazing things – especially if you don’t wash them after handling chicken… but aside from that I thought Almunia’s hands were amazing. Every save he made it was like saying “Fuck off!” and the one’s he missed it was like “Aw, fuck sake.”
…Anyway I felt The Gunners weathered the storm well – then we toweled our ball bag dry and got two goals back. Behave yourself Barcelona – you’re at the Emirates.
Let’s go nuts at the Nou Camp.
Get well soon Cesc, Gallas, Andre, Almunia (mentally)
Fuck Spurs

hey does 1 away goal count as two??!
and does anyone know if henry had a interview after this match??
@sonogkick
in case of total draw yes away goals counts as two.
i mean if in the second leg at neu camp we get 1-1 so aggregate is 3-3 but in this case if we count away goals twice barca going to go up:D
its same as away goals (although i think they say this for some retard who doesn’t understand away goals – i don’t mean u so don’t get angry):D
Arsenal rocks!!! The finals are w8tin for us!!!!
@ sonofkick – if the total of goals makes it draw, 1 away goal counts as 2… Arsenal needs only one goal to win and should not take any..
we need to win them
I’m watching this almost a week after the match and I’m still having a big pile of shite in my pants. Gonna be very difficult tomorrow w/o Cesc, Gallas, Arshavin and now when Song is ruled out too. Sol is doubtful to play aswell. Dear God, I fear Silvestre vs Messi.
BUT WHY COULDN’T WE DO IT?! We scored 2 goals in 20 minutes in the 1st leg, so why can’t we score 8 in the 2nd leg? Especially when Barca are missing their key men (Ibrahimovic, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique) too! KEEP THE FAITH, WE CAN DO IT!
Victory Through Harmony
