Nice of Wenger to still “believe” but let’s be realistic

I don’t know how to approach the rest of the season, I think I’d just be willing to take third place and avoid the summer-time European qualification tie. Man United and Chelsea are 7 and 9 points clear, which means even if we play great football for the rest of the year, we’ll have to count on those teams dropping significant points. With only 13 games left, I just don’t see either of those two dropping many. Let’s face it, we had two “6 pointers” over the last two weeks and blew them both. Barring a collapse by the teams ahead of us, we’re out. Stranger things have happened and there’s always a chance, but even if those clubs drop points, I don’t think Arsenal will capitalize. Wenger still believes:
“I sit here in every single press conference and the situation of the moment is like it is forever. Sport is change, movement and we have to accept that,” said Wenger. “Of course it is realistic to still think we can catch Manchester United and Chelsea – why not? Everybody will drop points. We have already played all the big teams. We have a long way to go. We still have 13 games to play and 39 points to take.”
As I said, it’s not only a question of them dropping points, it’s also us going basically perfect for the rest of the season which is more unlikely.
The boys need to approach the Liverpool match with caution, because if we lose this then we’re back to fighting for fourth place and I’m not sure this team is mentally strong enough to handle that kind of pressure. Arsene has to bide his time this season and hope that he can sign reinforcements this summer, until then we have to hang on to our Champions League spot because losing that would be truly disastrous.
Wenger’s denying that he tried to sign Sorensen before the deadline. Does it matter at this point? I do hope he’s lying because if Wenger was actively searching for a replacement for Almunia, it’s a step towards the right direction. Almunia is not good enough to be Arsenal’s #1 goalkeeper.
Chamakh is almost a sure thing this summer. We sure could’ve used his height against Man Utd and Chelsea. I don’t agree with the criticism leveled at Arshavin in those two matches, he’s done a pretty good job considering he’s playing out of position. Those of us who think that he’s playing “selfish” are wrong, a striker is supposed to shoot and that’s what he’s done. I’m sure glad somebody at Arsenal is shooting the ball because players like Walcott, Bendtner and even Nasri have a tendency to dribble too much even when a shot-opportunity (however low percentage) presents itself.
Daniel Agger thinks Liverpool can beat Arsenal. I hope Daniel Agger breaks a leg in the shower.

I agree Arsenalist. I still dnt fink sorensen is good enuff. he denied it himself (wenger) and as for the arshavin bit, that is also true, i dnt fink he is selfish or shit as some ppl wanna moan about him. i personally fink he has done a good job and like u said he ante scared to tek a shot. thats wt we need. and WE R FORGETTIN THAT ARSENAL SHOULD BE WINNING TITLE NOT FIGHTING FOR TOP FOUR EVRY YEAR. IT HAS BECOME OUR REPUTATION TO JUST FIGHT FOR TOP FOUR, ITS NOT GOOD ENUFF. SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENUFF.

First of all; do I think Arsenal will win the title? No.
However, Chelsea and Man Utd have significantly harder run-ins than Arsenal, and both of have shown they are susceptible to losing against smaller teams, so it’s a long shot, but still possible. If Bendtner finds the form he seems to have with Denmark, we could go on an impressive run.

@ Ice9. you’re right. bendtner did show some good quality with denmark. if he gets that form back and spear heads the 4-3-3, i dont see why not 39 point. which will be good enough i think, considering how bizzare this season has been. if hull city can draw with chelsea and bet man city, why not? i think both teams are bound to lose point. we came back from an 11 point deficit with about 9 or 10 games. i honestly think if the squad can pull off 13 wins, we can still fight for the title, or settle for 2nd. my biggest worry is almunia, he just seems to lose confidence with every game.

I just saw Jack Wilshere playing for Bolton. That little dude can really become a star soon.

Absolutely spot on Arsenalist! agree with everything you said there. I think if we can go on another good run then things could change instantly, we need to hold it down, play our football, concentrate on guaranteeing at least a Champion League place and minimilise the injury situation. Regardless of the team’s lack of experience, we are going to get stronger and stronger if we stay together. We must win tomorrow at The Emirates and then things can start looking up. I’ll be in the pub watching the game….. come on ARSENAL ! Oi Oi !!!

One more Spanish media report bout Fabregas moving to Barca! dunno if its rubbish or not! but Wenger better play his cards right this summer n get the right players in! We can see that the team is nearly there! nearly close to being an awesome team! but if wenger is not given funds or if he doesn’t utilize what he has we’re going to be doing this all over again!

btw does anyone think theres something fishy about our medical staff… barca had an amazing season because they minimized injuries last season… why are we cursed with all these injuries?!?!?

In regards to Jack
Wenger should have sent Theo on loan and kept Wilshire, at least he can run without leaving the ball behind.
Losing on two counter attacks in two crucial games is just criminal. Wenger seemed to have adopted Nigeria game plan in the 90’s you score we score more.
Clichy going walk abouts just Chelsea was taking that corner; tells me there is some serious communication issues in the team.
Second goal ditto, both Clichy and TV follow Anelka ( who Wenger should have signed from Bolton when he was available).
