Disappointed in Adebayor
Posted by Arsenalist on September 14th, 2009
I was going about my usual job during the Man City game putting up highlights. I had uploaded the first three goals (1, 2, 3) and was looking forward to a tight finish at Eastlands, and that’s when Adebayor did his thing. I was already disgusted by his stamp on Robin Van Persie but the celebration just put it over the top for me. I just turned the stream off and shut my computer.
He was one of my favorite Arsenal players last season even though he got caught offside 500 times, I had him on the banner of this website for a year and a half, I gave him the benefit of the doubt last summer when he wanted to leave, I stood up for him after his terrible performances against Man Utd in the Champions League. Arsenal gave this guy everything he had, they bought him away from a club where he wasn’t even playing and put him alongside Thierry Henry. They made him Fabregas’ main target and the Spaniard set up countless goals for him, the thanks he got was an attempt to injure.
So the fans got on his case when he was at Arsenal. What’s the big deal? He caused big uproar last summer with his two-faceness and wishing to leave; when he couldn’t’ be moved he came back and kissed the badge. His effort in some games was questionable and the fans recognized that as they should; if we didn’t do that we’d be terrible supporters. Eboue had the same thing happen to him, his head wasn’t in the game and he was doing dumb shit on the pitch, we gave him the treatment too but he didn’t turn out to be a cunt, he took it as valid criticism and now he’s a regular first-team player.
I’m not even upset at the result, I’m just surprised just how big of a cunt Adebayor turned out to be and feel conned because I used to support him for so long. The game itself could’ve turned out very differently if Gallas had taken his early chance – a free header from 6 feet out. We were missing one of our main catalysts, Arshavin, who foolishly aggravated his groin injury on international duty. I think he has become as important as Fabregas to this team and life without him is unimaginable at this point. It was nice to see Rosicky get a goal, I’m just worried I’ll check the Sky Sports page at some point today and see that he’s out for another 6 years.
Song was at fault for the third goal. He can’t allow himself to be undressed like that in the box, it’s plain and simple. Almunia’s reaction time for the first goal was also poor. I’ve never been a big fan of Almunia, he makes too many mistakes at key moments to be considered Arsenal quality and I was hoping Wenger would recognize that this summer. The defense is still a question mark, especially with Djourou out for what looks like the season. Senderos is our insurance and that doesn’t make me feel too good.
We got Champions League in mid-week, got to start regrouping there.

Glad you’re ok…I was worried about you, even though I turned the stream off at almost exactly the same time and went for a walk. I just expected to watch some of your highlights when I got back.
I’m curious as to whether Cesc did get a knock from that stamp, because he had an awful game by his standards. It was his brutal pass that caught Clichy out. I wouldn’t be too hard on Song…he’s broken up a lot of plays with that move, and he did get the ball, it just went off SWP’s leg and directly forward.

Emmanuel is a pro footballer and is paid to maintain a certain degree of professionalism. How is inciting a bunch of footy fans into a rage professional, attempting to hurt a fellow professional isn’t professional, and even before kick off, he felt it wise to wander on the Arsenal side of the pitch, i’m so pleased he left and we don’t have that behaviour against our name. Surely this is a far more unique and morally wrong performance than Eduardo v. Celtic, will anyone intervene in Arsenals defence, will they hell.

i also was disappointed by him
they should ban him for his behavior in the game
but it even doesnt make me feel better
the only thing which may make me feel better is seeing he suck in every game he plays
and i’m scared that if we face man city another time he surely gonna injure some players with that brutal attitude

Firstly, very nicely written article!!
I thought it was stupid for him to expect fans would just cheer him on after being two-faced! But at least that was done n dusted! He got a new team n more money! When I saw him in the first game of the season you could see a spark in the way he was running and when he scored the goal and i was happy to see him back to better form!
N then he kicks players he used to play with! At least the celebration makes lil sense in that he had some reason to do it! Obviously it wasn’t the right thing to do! But what reason did he have to stamp van persie in the face??? Just proved wat a loser he is!! We’re better off without a guy who needs rival supporters to boo him so that he can play well!
He seems to have got a 3 match ban n looks like he wont play against ManU but who cares! It’s a lose-lose situation if either team wins..

I hear you, Arsenalist, about Adebayor. I spent the last several years defending him in Texas. I had few allies. But you know — in truth none of this actually surprises me. He’s young, healthy, has a lot of talent, and is otherwise a complete pain in the ass. He always has been. One keeps wanting to overlook his youthful selfishness and foolishness, yet in fact those things can’t really be blamed on his age. He’s an ass, pure and simple. I confess to being glad that he’s gone. He slowed our team down anyway, even if he wasn’t locker room poison. As soon as things start getting a little rough at Man Shitty, he’ll probably start batting his eyelashes at the Italian teams again — which, to be sure, is where we should have sold him in the first place.
