I’ll sum this game up in two sentences. Robbed. We beat ourselves. Do check this great post about Wayne Rooney’s dive.

    i dont get it
diaby own goal —-> misses a great chance —-> making so many mistakes in passes —-> still in the game full 90 minutes:O

  • Sufian

i can’t understand why the ref was too harsh with Arsenal. Valencia fouled too many times and didn’t got booked for elbowing Vermaelen, etc! I think ref was in pressure with the diving propaganda against Eduardo and thus he decided to give decisions against us!

  • Legal Gooner

The Eduardo stuff needs to stop, as that PK was clearly not a defining moment for Celtic. Today, Dean gave Rooney a PK as their was contact, however Rooney had no control over the ball and was by no means impeded by Almunia. Always an optimist, I think going down like this should strengthen the boys and you gotta love Wenger at the end. Remember, this was without Cesc, Nasri, and Theo. Sure United was without Rio, but I think the disappointment should be met with optimism.

  • Loo

Arsenal lose to referee and experience this round….
No doubt about that, English referee is always protect english player…this is the fact why ManU can always easily get the PK, both Away and Home match.
To Wenger and all arsenal players, please fight back and lift the EPL CUP this year, to proof all the referee and media that we still can lift the cup by quality of our beauty football, not quality of referee?? Agree?

Arsenal only have 1 english substitute player in this match….

Wenger, we need to recruit some experience player to help the team… Eboue and Diaby is bit lack in experience and always nervous in big match…please consider…

  • goonerkap

Very frustrating evening..but the best part of ’09 campaign start is that we are much stronger than last year, or ’07, or ’06, and we look good defensively with Vermaelen in the centre. k e e p the f a i t h !

  • gt

Hate to say this but it’s a clear penalty; the contact was too obvious to ignore.

  • Loksta

seriously, Wat the hell is wrong with these refs. Rooney was NEVER!!! going to score that and the ref was in a TERRIBLE position to give that penalty. This is what happens at Old trafford. The refs suk on Fergusons D*ck. and then an own goal. Man u didnt deserve this game at all. outplayed in everyway.

  • mr.secrecy

As with goonerkap, definitely stronger this season… and most definitely KEEP THE FAITH!

  • gt

It was Almunia’s mistake to have misjudged the situation. He shouldn’t have gone for the ball and should just have let the defense deal with it. Rooney is isolated and it’s far away from one-on-one.

  • Sid

Arsenal dint deserve to lose. But we did.. All we can do now is get up dust ourselves and thrash other teams in our way. We can win the title and we have to do it ourselves. No point buying more players cos once the injured players come bak even our bench will look scary

  • Gurps

Well said Loksta what is wrong with these refs. How the hell was arshavin’s foul not given a penalty. Man Utd did not deserve to win this game at all. I guess the promising thing is because its still early in the season we’re going to get alot better.

    Keep the faith!

  • Gooner4Life

it felt like we were trying to lose the game. We lost to much posestion in the midfield we needed cesc to controll the posession. But alex ferguson controls the majority of refs, he got them all in his pocket. WTF sent arsene off. The reff needs to go back to chammpionchip league useless.

Keep the faith guys, we know now how useless is Man U.

  • PDT

    So everyone’s disappointed we lost.

I am sorry we lost, but am still quite optimistic…this is not the end of the world for us.

Just want to make a few points :

    1. This team has heart. They ran and they ran and they ran till the whistle.

    2. It is early days yet. Losing to the mancs is not the disaster that everyone seems to think it is. We have a whole season to go, to say nothing of the international break (which has been a bigger problem for us than losing a game).

    3. The team that ran rings around the mancs was a team without Fabregas, Rosicky, Nasri, Theo and Vela. Spend a moment thinking what our first team should look like and the bench strength we have!

    4. The next three teams in the league are City, Wigan and Fulham. What will be important in these three games is how we play, how Arsene rotates and whether we can keep a clean sheet. Nine points from the three games will keep the fires burning till the winter.

BTW, I know some of you think that we don’t need to rotate at the beginning of the season, but that’s how you keep your best players rested as we approach the crunch months of December, Jan and Feb, which is the period when we have struggled in the past.

    5. Success in October hinges around the Champions League. The UCL draw has been kind to us. We have Std Liege and Olympiacos next month. It will be important for us to get full points from all three. If we can play Wengerball away at Liege and get a tennis score, that will really set the season up.

    6. Th most important thing is that everyone comes back from the international break fit and raring to go.

Plus, don’t forget, we could get some unexpected presents on the 2nd of Sept! I am still putting my money on a CB, with maybe a DM and a forward. My guess is Subotic (yes, I know he just signed a new contract), Matuidi and Chamakh.

Lastly, if I may allow myself the indulgence of a curse – I almost choked when I saw Lasagna playing in the same team as Kaka, Ronaldo, etc…may he burn in hell forever! We should have locked him up in the freezer and forced him to serve out his contract! Arsene was too nice to him.

On the other hand, AW might just be getting his mojo back – he did kick an unsuspecting bottle yesterday!

BTW, how many red cards did we pick up per season in the Arsene years while we were winning stuff and how many did we pick up in the last five years since Paddy left?

  • samcore.

So, we lost. Disappointing, yes, very much so. But at least we’re not the ones who lost to Burnley.

  • Sid

I’m sad Arsenal lost to Man u especially when they were really really good! This isn’t the same team that got trashed in the champions league by ManU. I think Arsenal did enuf to prove they are serious contenders. There is a lot of time left this season and if they keep playing this way and with players returning I think we can push for results against any team!!

    KEEP THE FAITH!!

DAMN OT REFEREES GOT NO BALLS TO TELL AF TO STFU AND MAKE UP THEIR OWN MIND RATHER THAN LISTEN TO THIER

SO CLOSE BUT ITS OK ONLY 3 GAMES PLAYED AND WE SHOULD COME BACK STRONGER

VEIRA AND CHAKRA WILL HELP US IMPROVE I HOPE OR IS THE PROFESSER GONNA DO ANOTHER SHOCK LAST DAY TRANSFER

  • Sonofkick

    http://www.konkurrencejagt.dk/rooneydive.jpg …. look at the left leg of Rooney… already touching fround before almunia touch him…yes penalty but its all done to the ref descision ..;
gunner are good and will do the job this year , stick with the boys and AW , they deserve it

  • http://Myrealityworld@yahoo.com Amag

Anybody who view d match 2ru tv or in d pitch will now dat d match was won by Man U 2ru d support of refree. But make arsenal better bcos dey will no how 2 dose kind of team.

  • Tieneich

Finally saw the game on rerun (was on a trip last saturday), and felt like we indeed got robbed. But like PDT said, I can’t help but to feel optimistic on this team as well. Compare this game to the last few games that we played against ManUre and Chelsea late last season, we were just much more mature since then.

I am disappointed about the loss, but I would rather see that we get a good winning streak toward the late season than now.

  • Gooner

still don believe the referee could not call Fletcher’s slide tackle a penalty! Thank God Arshavin scored!

N Eboue is a moron! Just wen the whole diving issue has come up he does it! N doesn’t do it well!

Cant wait for Nasri and Rosciky to return!
