Arsenal vs. Sparta Prague Highlights (2nd Leg): Yawn
Posted by Arsenalist on August 29th, 2007
It’s nice to see the Arse score 3 goals but you almost needed medication to get through some parts of this one. It was a meaningless game and it was clear that the two goals we scored away were going to be enough but you can’t avoid formalities. 3-0 the final score with everybody on the squad taking their turns at being everything from brilliant to lazy. Eduardo finally got his first real goal with Arsenal and lay there like he had just won the Champions League - it’s just the group stages pal! He’s never been there before so his excitement is justified.
If you care to read too much into this game (there’s something wrong if you do) you might point out that Sparta “almost” scored 4 times and if they hadn’t dove a couple times they might’ve even scored. But we were nonchalant the entire game and things were under control since two weeks ago. Fabregas made an appearance replacing Denilson which made no sense to me, why risk an injury in a completely meaningless part of the game. Walcott got some good minutes tonight, probably showed enough to deserve a Premiership start this weekend. He’s got no problem getting open and past his defender on the right side, it’s just that his crosses are sometimes disappointing or he doesn’t cross at all, tonight he played excellent and McLaren’s a damn fool for passing over him.
Oh, BTW we’re through to the group stages. Big f***ing surprise. Also, Adriano is a fat man who will not help us, good move by Wenger in declining the loan request. I’ve got confidence in the current strike team, I think by mid-season Eduardo will have adapted to the English game and we’ll see more performances like today. He might be on par with RVP when it comes to pure talent, he just needs more time to show it.
I shall bore you with mindless banter no more, here are the highlights.
Rosicky ‘8: Download. Walcott’s pass was too good. Never left even an inch above the ground.

Fabregas ‘82: Download. Nice move by Eduardo to setup Fabregas.

All hail the arsenalist. Dudu is just relieved to score his first goal. He’s come close a couple times. The move that setup the Fabregas goal was brilliant but the defender was a little lazy.

Rosicky’s celebration was proper.
He scored against his first club but he didn’t go crazy (not like Rooney when he scored against Everton and started jumping around like a girl).
Good call Arsenalist.

What Croatian was trying to tell you is that it wasn’t a group stage match. It was the last qualification round. And I think his reaction after scoring was just one of relief.

Understood, but what I was trying to say is that this will be the first time he’ll get to play in the group stages. Moot point really, we won. It’s all good.
