US U-17 and Notre Dame
This doesn’t bode well. TFC - a professional football club - couldn’t score against the US U-17 team. That’s right, UNDER 17. They’re practically sophomores in high school yet they managed a stalemate against TFC which sport a bunch of experienced imports and home-grown talent. This embarrassing result did not please Mo Johnston, au contraire:
“We played like an expansion team today, we weren’t good enough.”
You don’t say? Read the game report if you want a few more details about the contest but the entire side was substituted at one point and even fresh legs weren’t the answer to the US U-17’s resilience. They created some chances but that doesn’t mean a thing if the job isn’t finished in the final third (as an Arsenal fan, I know all about this). So after this debacle of a game, Toronto FC had the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to deal with. So how do you think they did? They easily beat them 3-0.
Now what am I to believe as a fan? They’re capable of beating a decent college team but at the same time not scoring at all against some kids going through puberty? I suppose time will tell wherein lies the true Toronto FC. The point of this blog entry is that I have no idea how these guys will perform in the regular season. If you haven’t done so already, you should always make a point to check out the Toronto MLS FC Blog and the Toronto FC Blog, both are excellent sources for team news and what’s going on. Toronto FC Season Tickets Sold Out
This is the other big news of the week. TFC has sold all their season seats for the 2007 season. This shows what a great following football has in this town and how long fans have been waiting to see some professional quality football in Toronto. There’s obviously going to be growing pains with this team but those are expected and even if the team is stinking it up this season, the fans will still be behind them for years to come. C’mon, it’s football.
